What a great event this was today at De Montfort University in Leicester. I’m really glad I went and the speaker line up would’ve graced any Blogging Conference anywhere! The speaker line up was :-
- Meg Pickard, Head of Communities and User Experience for Guardian Unlimited
- Eileen Brown, Microsoft Technology Evangelist
- Jory des Jardins, Media Consultant & Co-founder of BlogHer
The presentations were really thought provoking, humourous, interesting and informative. I felt very engaged all the way through and I was listening intently. It was really refreshing to just go and talk about something I feel passionate about and listen to other people’s experiences and what they are doing with their blogs. There was so much good stuff that it would fill many pages but check out the Conference site for a taster and see what you’ve missed! I told you so!
UPDATE: Check out Technorati (tag: nlabwomen) for the other blogger’s posts about the conference - they’re starting to appear as I write this!
I got into a great conversation with Georgina Mitcham, IT Professional Audience Marketing Manager at Microsoft. She was really interested in the SBSC Community and hopefully I’ll be talking to her some more and linking in with Technet. It feels like more people in Microsoft are “getting us”!
Eileen mentioned a blog called “Mini Microsoft” written by an anonymous Microsoft employee which is read by senior Microsoft people and which exposes Microsoft’s internal processes! Ouch!
Steve Clayton’s going to be pleased as Eileen is obviously a convert to the Blue Monster stuff and had it up in her presentation.

[...] So the message I wanted to deliver was: just do it. Blog regularly with passion and you’ll get the interaction you want from your audience. Don’t focus on the statistics, remember it’s quality over quantity. Enjoy your work. I talked to some fantastic people: Meg, Jory, Vijay, Anna, Jess and a whole lot more that I unfortunately didn’t get to spend enough time with., [...]

Glad to hear it went well - I chatted through the slides with Eileen beforehand and I’m really pleased she used the Blue Monster. There are definitely some people here who “get it”
